Rachel Taunton

Indigenous Communities Outreach Coordinator

About Me

My name is Rachel Taunton and I am the Indigenous Communities Outreach Coordinator at Durham College. My family's roots hail from the Mohawks of Kanehsatà:ke, Guyana, and Scotland. I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Anthropological Archaeology and a Master’s degree in Cultural Studies from Trent University. My academic and research experience includes fieldwork in Poland and Sierra Leone, as well as a published article in Atlantic Studies: Global Currents exploring accurate historical representation in video game development.

My role at the College involves offering various avenues of support for prospective and current students, and community members. My office resides within Suswaaning Endaajig, a welcoming community space for Indigenous students on campus.

Whether we meet on campus or in community, I am always happy to discuss post-secondary education options - whatever they may look like!

Please feel free to reach out with any questions about Durham College, community partnerships, and outreach initiatives.
