Shawna Chatterton-Jerome
Coordinator of Indigenous Student Success ServicesAbout Me
My name is Shawna and I am Mi'kmaq from Gesgapegiag, which is a community on the east coast of Quebec.
I started working at Bishop's University (BU) in 2021, as the Coordinator of Indigenous Student Success Centre. Before this, I graduate BU in 2021 Majoring in Sociology with a concentration in Criminology, Law, and Social Policy. Being a recent(ish) graduate allows me to support students in a way most would not be able to. I know the system very well as having experienced both sides of Bishop's. I love supporting Indigenous students in every step of their journey from applying to Bishop's to when they graduate and move on to the next chapters in their lives.
We have a whole Indigenous Student Resource building called Kwigw8mna which means 'our and everyone's house' in the Abenaki language. In this building you can receive all the supports you need to have a welcoming and successful experience. The Indigenous Student Success Centre (ISSC) is in the building, there is also quiet study spaces, a kitchen, a lounge area, meals and weekly activities, and much more!
Please do not hesitate to reach out if you need any support and/or want to know more about BU or our Indigenous Services. I am just one email or call away!
